Does my AED have items that have to be replaced?

Yes.

Each manufacture has accessories, such as batteries and pads, that need to be replaced on a regular basis.  The pads must be replaced due to the fact that the adhesive/gel on the back of the pads dries out over time.  If the pads have dried out, then the AED will not be able to analyze the victim properly and may not advise a shock when a shock is needed.  The manufactures have tested the pads to determine the last available date (month/year) that the pads can be used in order to function properly. 

The battery power will be used up during the life of the AED due to the fact that the AED does self-testing to ensure that the AED is fully functional.  The battery must be replaced according to the manufacture's recommended expiration date.

Here are the guidelines set forth by the manufactures for replacement of pads and batteries:

Philips OnSite AED
Adult Pads - 2 years
Infant/Child Pads - 2 years
Battery - 4 years from date of installation

Philips FRx AED
Adult Pads - 2 years
Infant/Child Key - does not expire
Battery - 4 years from date of installation

Philips FR2 AED
Adult Pads - 2 years
Infant/Child Pads - 2 years
Battery - 4 years from date of installation

Philips ForeRunner (FR1) AED
Adult Pads - 2 years
Infant/Child Pads - does not offer this capability
Battery - 1 years from date of installation

Medtronic LifePak CR+/Express
Charge-Pak Kit - 2 years
Infant/Child Pads - 2 years
