Rhode Island Good Samaritan Law

The State of Rhode Island Good Samaritan law protects individuals that aid a victim during an emergency from liability when the act is in good faith.  The Rhode Island Good Samaritan Law states the following:

"No person who voluntarily and gratuitously renders emergency assistance to a person in need thereof including the administration of life saving treatment to those persons suffering from anaphylactic shock shall be liable for civil damages which result from acts or omissions by such persons rendering the emergency care, which may constitute ordinary negligence. This immunity does not apply to acts or omissions constituting gross negligence or willful or wanton conduct."

Rhode Island Fitness Club AED Law

The State of Rhode Island has enacted an AED Law that requires fitness clubs to have an AED on site and to have the staff trained in CPR and AED use.  The Rhode Island Good Samaritan Law states the following:

"(a) Every health club registered with the department of attorney general pursuant to this chapter shall have at least one automated external defibrillator (AED) on the premises. The AED will at all times be deployed in a manner in which best provides accessibility to staff, members and guests. At least one employee per shift must be properly trained by the American Heart Association or comparable state recognized agency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED, and must be on duty during hours of operation."
